DABI enjoyed a beautiful sunny day for the get together at Banksia Beach on Sept. 28.
We had 4 visiting teams and they transported their boats up for us to enjoy a hitout on Pumicestone Passage.
We received support from the local Councillor Gary Parsons who ironed out some unforseen problems for us, and the Bribie Lions Club helped us with extra BBQ's and tents .
Zonta ladies from Caboolture attended and made the announcement that they will donate $8000 to DABI to purchase our boat and some of them paddled for the first time , thoroughly enjoying the experience.
The visitors all agreed that Bribie is a beautiful spot to have a dragonboat breast cancer survivor team and wished us well, and also thanked us for the day.
We were also very grateful to them , both for their company and for all the trouble of bringing up the boats.
On the Saturday night we went to the Bribie Hotel for dinner and had over 60 celebrating.
We have lots of functions planned for the next few weeks as Bribie Rotary Club has organised a premier showing of "Australia" the movie and has included us in this special event. They have also indicated they would like to help us with our endeavours to get started and have asked us to provide prices to of the equipment we will need.
Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club is organising a golf day on Oct. 26 with proceeds to DABI.
Bribie Hotel is holding Melbourne Cup day luncheon with $5 from every ticket to come to us.
Some of the new DABI members who have not paddled before have been going to Sunshine Coast and Redcliffe where they have been welcomed by those tems to start learning while we are waiting for our boat.
There is also a "Blessing the Surf" ceremony combined with a Fijiian Lovo and a Field of Women planned for Oct. 25 at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island.
